Meet Our New Recycled Fabric

Get to know the recycled fabric blend behind our four new colors.
At Neighbor, Sustainability’s been on our mind since the very beginning. For our latest color launch, we tapped into our partnership with Sunbrella and selected fabrics from their Heritage Renaissance program, where they transform fabric waste into sustainable new fabrics. The colors: Ashe, Greystone, Rust, and Leaf, have the same Sunbrella performance as our original colors but are made with up to 93% post-industrial recycled yarn.
Read on to learn how we selected the colors and why they’re the perfect complement to our durable teak wood frame and quick-drying foam.
Why we partner with Sunbrella
The Sunbrella brand name has been synonymous with upholstery innovation and performance since the ’60s. Their solution-dyed acrylic fabrics are a perfect partner to the rest of our furniture because of their style and durability. We’re also a big fan of Sunbrella’s commitment to sustainable practices. They send zero waste to landfills at their factory in North Carolina and prioritize durable fabric so you don’t need to replace your furniture as often (ultimately creating less waste).
Inspired by nature: Our color selection process
We always intended to add additional colors to our Haven Collection. When selecting these new shades, we pulled inspiration from nature, thinking a lot about how the fabrics will look surrounded by greenery and next to our teak as it ages from a honey color to a silvery grey. The dark sage green (Leaf) and terracotta orange (Rust) are a slight nod to our Arizona roots, whereas Greystone and Ashe are rich neutral shades that work well between our original Coal and Canvas cushion covers. The specks of color from the recycled fabric add subtle warmth and character to all four colors.
New recycled fabrics vs. our original colors
To manufacture the Heritage collection fabrics (where our new colors come from), Sunbrella collects and breaks down leftover fiber, yarn, and fabric and blends it with new fibers. The result is a yarn that contains up to 93% post-industrial recycled fibers that would otherwise end up in a landfill. The fabric itself has unique specks of color that give it a unique character. Your cushion's color variations are truly one-of-kind.
Caring for your outdoor cushions
Nature is no match for Sunbrella’s solution-dyed acrylic fabric. Neighbor cushion covers are fade-proof, naturally mold and mildew resistant, and repel water. The cushions are easy to hose down, wipe, or machine-wash after a spill. Sunbrella fabrics are made to be enjoyed, no matter your lifestyle, and are OEKO-TEX certified. Great for kids, pets, and naps.
